How to Draw a Basic Flower
Start with the center, not the petals. If the petals touch that circle, the flower holds together. The stem is a line you add after the bloom already reads.
Materials Pencil, paper, eraser. A black pen is optional once the petals overlap the center the way you want.
Step 1
Draw a small circle, high enough on the page that a stem can hang below it. This circle is the center, not the whole flower.
Step 2
Add five petals as ovals around the circle. Each petal should touch the center. Leave a small gap between petals so they stay countable.
Step 3
Draw the stem as one line from under the bloom to near the bottom of the page. It can tilt a little. It should not start from a petal tip.
Step 4
Add two leaves on the stem, one to each side, at different heights. Each leaf is a pointed oval with the wide end toward the stem.
Finished
The finished flower is the center, five petals that touch it, a stem, and two leaves. No extra rings.
A common miss
Petals that float near the center without touching it look like a scatter of seeds. Push each oval until it overlaps the circle a little, then erase the line of the circle that sits inside the petal if it gets noisy.
One variation
Draw two more stems from the same ground area, each with a smaller center and five smaller petals. Same steps, less size.
